Would this be a good story idea?
basically it's like the film "Big" but in reverse. So this granny somehow (probably in a storm or something) wakes up and sees she's younger, around 16/17. Her grandson hits on her and she has to avoid most of the family, like her daughter or son because they would know what she looked like younger. She gets a new haircut and tries to adapt to the modern world, modern language, quicker walking, technology....What person do you think it would be best to write it in? 3rd or 1st? Present or past tense?
I know it's probably been done before but the book before I fall is basically groundhog day but at school, and it's still such a great book, even though the story has been written and made into a film.
Does this sound interesting?
thanks.

Is there any Ancient nation which contributed to the world more than Greece?
Government. The Greeks gave us the idea of democracy and the 'people's country'.Architecture. The pillars and regal style of great American buildings such as the White House are based on the Greeks.
Literature. Homer's the Odyssey, the Iliad are classics in modern literature.
Entertainment. Comedies, tragedies are all dramas and great plays given to us by the Greeks.
Logic. Aristotle, Socrates, Plato and others gave us logic.
Other contributions in science, famous people, math, art, medicine, technology, arts, music, religion and many others.
Olympic games and popular sports such as athletics , javelin , discus , wrestling , boxing.
History. What else would we learn about in class? Greeks have a fascinating history.
Also people like King Leonidas , Alexander The Great , Homer , Socrates , Plato , Achilles and so on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you think that if it wasn't for religion holding them back, the Native Tasmanians would of discovered fire?
"When discovered by Europeans in 1642, it supported about 5,000 hunter-gatherers related to the Aborigines of the Australian mainland and with perhaps the simplest technology of any modern peoples. Tasmanians made only a few types of simple stone and wooden tools. Like the mainland Aborigines, they lacked metal tools, agriculture, livestock, pottery, and bows and arrows. Unlike the mainlanders, they also lacked boomerangs, dogs, nets, knowledge of sewing, and ability to start a fire."Jared Diamond

Can we take a moment to give all the Conservatives who have opposed this out of control Administration a hand?
The president offers an extended critique of Republicans."...The underlying theme of the speech was a defense of government. "It's our job as a nation to advocate on behalf of the America that we hope for," he said, arguing that only an activist government could provide a minimum safety net and give opportunity to poor students, innovative research, and businesses that invest in cleaner energy technologies.
As he reached the end of his remarks, Obama got specific about pending legislation, making his strongest pitch yet for the Senate climate change legislation. "The time has come to aggressively accelerate" the effort to put a price on carbon pollution, he said, before making a commitment: "The votes might not be there right now, but I intend to find them in the coming months." This is a different level of motivation than he demonstrated on immigration reform. On that topic, Obama said there was only so much he could do to push legislation because Republicans would not give him the votes."
Yes I think I will even give the Democrat Conservatives a hand in opposing this incompetent President

Pytanie #25:
Can someone remind me why we care about gay marriage?
I mean who cares, it's SOOOOO boring. It just wastes time. We should be more worried about developing technologies and sciences then "adam and steve." Here's my take:1. If you believe it's evil and they're going to hell, ok, but let them make that choice. It's between them and god. Honestly, it doesn't hurt anyone but themselves (if at all), so let them be judged for their sins. god can take care of it.
2. If you dont care, well, then you dont care.
I myself find it completely unimportant. If I could press a button, I'd guess let them have the right I suppose, but it's not all that important to me. Again, SOO boring. We waste so much time. If it's unnatural and evil, god WILL take care of it, and doesn't need your help. Surely people agree? Isn't it a waste of time? Grant civil unions with sensible limitations, leave marriages to the discretion of churches, and that's it. If they go to hell, it;s there problem. If there is no hell, who cares.

Is their a "complete idiots guide to amp repair" somewhere? (It's "transtube technology" so it's not a real tube amp)

The futurist party/technology party?
[I made spelling and typing errors. I'm a scientist, I don't care. So don't bother telling me.]As a scientist (and more importantly, a futurist and specialist in technology), I am continually frustrated with the ridiculous issues we waste our time on endlessly entrenching ourselves over. Many are a huge waste of time, (gay marriage, 9/11 mosque) and almost all can be solved with the development of advanced technologies and sciences. I am a "democract", and I suppose socially a "liberal", but mostly because religious issues don't really bother me. But then I see people like Al gore dribble on about how global warming (which is exactly what he says, but unimportant, but irrelevant. see below) is our biggest threat, and will destroy our civilization, totally unaware of how technologies can easily make up for any of the "challenges" it'll belay, and I realize it's still a primitive and ignorant political approach.
Everytime the futurist community tries to voice these views, we are always labeled as "nutjobs", or are largely ignored because don't understand just what the implications would be from our idea's from being implemented. Nanotechnologies, agricultural engineering, artificial intelligence, hi-tech archetechiture, and so forth- all these are so ignored and yet they can do SO much. I we spend 70% of our efforts and budget on technology and sciences, we'd have the ability to do things you can't imagine, and probably won't believe, but I'm about to tell you.
Listen to this.....
1. MILITARY/DEFENSE: Advanced laser systems, biological enhancements, tracking software, global computer networking, transportation- all of these would make terrorism virtually impossible, as our security systems become impenetrable, our survellience unpassable, and weapons undodgable. Now we're actually rather good at this, but we could be better. I don't understand why the wiretapping issue was such a big deal- the CIA doesn't care about you, promise.
2. Healthcare: Nanotechnology and genetic therapies will fundamentally alter our approach to medicine. I happen to be life extension scientist, and the possibility that we'll achieve 500 year lifespans within the next 30 years is very possible ( I know, I know, I promise it is.) AND deal with the population surplus and resource problems. At any rate, "obama care" will be obsolete, as will almost all of our modern medicines.
3. Resource/space/quality of life: Here's why I'm a democrat but HATE Al Gore. This enviromentalism stuff is total nonsense. Who CARES what the "natural way is?" Humans are on earth, what we do is a natural occurance. Cities are no more than giant beehaves, right? Popular science had an article suggesting a skyscraper made of reinforced glass, and each story was an indoor-greenhouse style farm. Now, imagine how much food we could produce in a city-sized space of these things. That's just one of THOUSANDS of examples of how better engineering could radically better our quality of life, and yet it's ignored. I could fill 1,000 pages with that kind of stuff.

Are they clinging in-laws looking for benefits?
My husband and I had to live with his parents for two years while we went to college because he was unable to find employment with his first degree. (This time around will be my first degree and his second.) We attended a community college at the time and held part-time jobs. Now we've moved a good 50-70 miles away to work for our bachelors degrees at a large university and feel that his parents shouldn't be contacting us as much.
Mostly they call us to ask if we can come over to fix their technology problems and then criticize us "midly" when we're there. Of course, gas isn't cheap, we're barely able to pay food and rent, and we both need time to study so we're hesitant about going up there to fix whatever's wrong.
I calculated the cost of driving up there to be at least $10 in gas.
So should they be allowed to control us and make us fix their problems? Or do they have the right to ask their son to do whatever when they need it? I feel we have lives of our own now and shouldn't be asked to take days out of our study schedules to fix these things for them. What do you think?
1. We hardly have enough money to eat so $10 could be 2 days worth of food.
2. I did most of the housework most of the time, while my husband did 60% or more of the yardwork. I cooked our food. Basically I was a live-in maid/tech repair while I was there. We also bought all our own food, paid for one of their cars repairs, etc.
His sister on the other hand hardly did anything and we're close in age. So it wasn't like we sat around and ate everything (like she did and still does).

This promises to be the worst labor day...?
THIS promises to be the worst Labor Day in the memory of most Americans. Organized labor is down to about 7 percent of the private work force. Members of non-organized labor — most of the rest of us — are unemployed, underemployed or underwater. The Labor Department reported on Friday that just 67,000 new private-sector jobs were created in August, while at least 125,000 are needed to keep up with the growth of the potential work force. The national economy isn’t escaping the gravitational pull of the Great Recession. None of the standard booster rockets are working: near-zero short-term interest rates from the Fed, almost record-low borrowing costs in the bond market, a giant stimulus package and tax credits for small businesses that hire the long-term unemployed have all failed to do enough.
That’s because the real problem has to do with the structure of the economy, not the business cycle. No booster rocket can work unless consumers are able, at some point, to keep the economy moving on their own. But consumers no longer have the purchasing power to buy the goods and services they produce as workers; for some time now, their means haven’t kept up with what the growing economy could and should have been able to provide them.
This crisis began decades ago when a new wave of technology — things like satellite communications, container ships, computers and eventually the Internet — made it cheaper for American employers to use low-wage labor abroad or labor-replacing software here at home than to continue paying the typical worker a middle-class wage. Even though the American economy kept growing, hourly wages flattened. The median male worker earns less today, adjusted for inflation, than he did 30 years ago.
But for years American families kept spending as if their incomes were keeping pace with overall economic growth. And their spending fueled continued growth. How did families manage this trick? First, women streamed into the paid work force. By the late 1990s, more than 60 percent of mothers with young children worked outside the home (in 1966, only 24 percent did).
Second, everyone put in more hours. What families didn’t receive in wage increases they made up for in work increases. By the mid-2000s, the typical male worker was putting in roughly 100 hours more each year than two decades before, and the typical female worker about 200 hours more.
When American families couldn’t squeeze any more income out of these two coping mechanisms, they embarked on a third: going ever deeper into debt. This seemed painless — as long as home prices were soaring. From 2002 to 2007, American households extracted $2.3 trillion from their homes.
Eventually, of course, the debt bubble burst — and with it, the last coping mechanism. Now we’re left to deal with the underlying problem that we’ve avoided for decades. Even if nearly everyone was employed, the vast middle class still wouldn’t have enough money to buy what the economy is capable of producing.
Where have all the economic gains gone? Mostly to the top. The economists Emmanuel Saez and Thomas Piketty examined tax returns from 1913 to 2008. They discovered an interesting pattern. In the late 1970s, the richest 1 percent of American families took in about 9 percent of the nation’s total income; by 2007, the top 1 percent took in 23.5 percent of total income.
It’s no coincidence that the last time income was this concentrated was in 1928. I do not mean to suggest that such astonishing consolidations of income at the top directly cause sharp economic declines. The connection is more subtle.
The rich spend a much smaller proportion of their incomes than the rest of us. So when they get a disproportionate share of total income, the economy is robbed of the demand it needs to keep growing and creating jobs.
What’s more, the rich don’t necessarily invest their earnings and savings in the American economy; they send them anywhere around the globe where they’ll summon the highest returns — sometimes that’s here, but often it’s the Cayman Islands, China or elsewhere. The rich also put their money into assets most likely to attract other big investors (commodities, stocks, dot-coms or real estate), which can become wildly inflated as a result.

No phone signal in my new basement flat! Suggestions?
My phone gets pretty much zero signal in my new garden/basement flat, which is going to be very annoying. I know that there are products you can buy which improve reception, but I don't want to waste my money. I live in a big city, quite central, so the phone reception is excellent in my area and the only problem is due to living in a basement flat. Is there anyone else out there who has faced the same problem for this reason and can you recommend a good piece of technology to solve the problem?!I'm on Orange, if that helps. Thanks for any advice.
Ok, nobody else mention landlines! I only recently took on a 24 month mobile contract and I would like to be able to use it. There is no landline installed at the flat and I would have to pay around £80-100 to have one installed and then whatever line rental costs on top every month. I'm mainly a texter anyway, so a landline does not solve my problem.
Silverbullet- I've never had any signal problems with my phone anywhere before (including lower floor flats) so it didn't even cross my mind when looking to rent. Unfortunately I can't change the contract or the phone now, but I doubt it would make a difference anyway. It's a decent, new phone so I don't think the handset is the issue, plus I've had a few other people come over with different phones/networks and they couldn't get a signal either.
Looks like I'm going to have to resort to spending lots of money or just sticking to email...

Is this guy insane or what?
I found this quote on FSTDT and all I can say is wow. This is just insane.********
The Discovery Channel MUST broadcast to the world their commitment to save the planet and to do the following IMMEDIATELY:
1. The Discovery Channel and it's affiliate channels MUST have daily television programs at prime time slots based on Daniel Quinn's "My Ishmael" pages 207-212 where solutions to save the planet would be done in the same way as the Industrial Revolution was done, by people building on each other's inventive ideas. Focus must be given on how people can live WITHOUT giving birth to more filthy human children since those new additions continue pollution and are pollution. A game show format contest would be in order. Perhaps also forums of leading scientists who understand and agree with the Malthus-Darwin science and the problem of human overpopulation. Do both. Do all until something WORKS and the natural world starts improving and human civilization building STOPS and is reversed! MAKE IT INTERESTING SO PEOPLE WATCH AND APPLY SOLUTIONS!!!!
2. All programs on Discovery Health-TLC must stop encouraging the birth of any more parasitic human infants and the false heroics behind those actions. In those programs' places, programs encouraging human sterilization and infertility must be pushed. All former pro-birth programs must now push in the direction of stopping human birth, not encouraging it.
3. All programs promoting War and the technology behind those must cease. There is no sense in advertising weapons of mass-destruction anymore. Instead, talk about ways to disassemble civilization and concentrate the message in finding SOLUTIONS to solving global military mechanized conflict. Again, solutions solutions instead of just repeating the same old wars with newer weapons. Also, keep out the fraudulent peace movements. They are liars and fakes and had no real intention of ending the wars. ALL OF THEM ARE FAKE! On one hand, they claim they want the wars to end, on the other, they are demanding the human population increase. World War II had 2 Billion humans and after that war, the people decided that tripling the population would assure peace. WTF??? STUPIDITY! MORE HUMANS EQUALS MORE WAR!
4. Civilization must be exposed for the filth it is. That, and all its disgusting religious-cultural roots and greed. Broadcast this message until the pollution in the planet is reversed and the human population goes down! This is your obligation. If you think it isn't, then get hell off the planet! Breathe Oil! It is the moral obligation of everyone living otherwise what good are they??
5. Immigration: Programs must be developed to find solutions to stopping ALL immigration pollution and the anchor baby filth that follows that. Find solutions to stopping it. Call for people in the world to develop solutions to stop it completely and permanently. Find solutions FOR these countries so they stop sending their breeding populations to the US and the world to seek jobs and therefore breed more unwanted pollution babies. FIND SOLUTIONS FOR THEM TO STOP THEIR HUMAN GROWTH AND THE EXPORTATION OF THAT DISGUSTING FILTH! (The first world is feeding the population growth of the Third World and those human families are going to where the food is! They must stop procreating new humans looking for nonexistant jobs!)

Would it be a good choice for me to go into healthcare after highschool? What should i do?
I'm a senior in high school and I don't know what I want to do after I graduate. I plan on going to college but I can't decide on a major. My parents are pushing me into the health care or engineering industry but I definitely don't want to take up engineering. As for health care, I don't really know what take. I've been considering nursing, radiology technology, and dental hygiene. Are they any good? What I really want to do is to open a bakery and have my own business, but I'm not sure if I would do well in business/management..Sorry, my question is a bit scattered all over the place...But I just want to know if going into the health care industry would be worth it. After all of the mixed reviews I've read about nursing, radiology technology, and dental hygiene I don't know whether I should take the chance and go for any of them....

Would an abortion be considered a sin?
Back in the early days, there wasn't the technology to abort a baby/fetus, so they couldn't foresee the abortion issue.I would say yes.

Where can I get a Nexus One (unlocked) in NEW CONDITION for under $620.00?
I know that the Nexus One is a really "original" phone that has been out for a pretty long time. However, whatever technology HTC and Google put in it, this phone still remains 1st place, mainly because of its Android 2.2's power. It makes the phone continue to be better than even the newest phones, because the Android is serious monster here. However, I didn't get a chance to buy the phone at Google, and I am not a developer, so purchasing directly from Google is not an option here. However, I do know that 3rd party stores, like Amazon, continue to sell this overwhelming phone, but at a very expensive price. So I am looking for a store that sells the phone UNLOCKED at under US$620. Please find me a link to a final price tag that is cheap. However, you can be unsuccessful. If you do, I'll let you select another phone that is just as good. Make sure that it is running on T-Mobile, or is factory unlocked. I do not use CDMA technology, either. The following phones are rejected, but if you have a remedy, explain that.
-Blackberry Bold 9700 (It has a huge keyboard, and a small screen, and I'm not comfortable with this type of design)
-Apple iPhone 4 (I hold this phone in a way that there is a chance of "antennagate")
-HTC Evo 4G (The phone cannot be purchased factory unlocked, and I don't like its size)
-Samsung Vibrant (A great phone, but I'm not risking my money on Samsung)
Try to find a phone that is good and at a cheap price, also working with T-Mobile. However, if you can find a cheap Nexus One, I'll be very satified.

This is the debate matter................pls chek 4 any flaws.........?
DEBATEWheels were invented in the pre-historic time due to the necessity of carrying loads. Synthetic cornea is invented in the 21st century due to the need of visually disabled people. This is because “necessity is the mother of invention”.
Mobile phones are no exception to what Albert Einstein once asserted. They were invented due to the necessity of such a device through which one could communicate wirelessly and across borders without the need to build extensive fixed line and other wired phone infrastructures. Thenceforth, mobiles have become something more than just a communication device, not only for the common people but also for the teenagers.
My first point of contention is that mobile phones provide a great deal of convenience as they are compact and can be used in almost any location. The GPRS or 3G enabled networks help to locate way through the ‘concrete jungle’ where if we are lost, even Google will not be able to search us. These networking services and ample connectivity provided by them also enable us to gain valuable and timely help in case of any emergency or exigency.
I would also like to bring to light the worldwide emergency number i.e. 112. This number works even if the keypad of your mobile phone is locked. And even if you are out of the coverage area this number is always there for your rescue.
My next point of contention is that in the present day scenario it is not sufficient for Pappu to just get pass in the exams. It is important for all the students to have global experience and to have the ability to use their surrounding resources in an effective manner.
The copious features present in a mobile phone like digital camera, video and audio recorder, multimedia messaging and instant access to internet provides the facility of global connection to the aspiring learners and also allows them to showcase their talent in cluster communication by making audio collage, online gallery of pictures and sharing their views globally.
I feel very strongly that today mobile phones have become a necessity for the social survival. In this fast paced life they have widened our narrow group of friends and have allowed us to carry a large number of intimates anywhere along with us and also let us to contact them anytime.
Moreover, they have emerged as the primary communication device for millions of rural, remote and underdeveloped areas in developing countries. This very well clarifies that mobile phones by no means are a luxury and by all means are a necessity.
To summarize, I would like to acknowledge one basic fact to all and sundry present here that no two generations can be weighed on the same scales as both were born in different times. For the teenagers of this generation, technology without doubt is as important as water is to fish. Therefore familiarity to technology and its knowledge is a must for the generationX. After all if this age is different from all ages it is only because of science and technology.
Hence, I support the motion by saying that mobile phones are necessary for the teenagers to keep pace with the global world, for their all round development and also to make their life worth living.
Thank You!
u r most welcome 2 giv ur own views as well!!!
thanx!
thanx melissa!
